Warm Traditional Part 3

Remember the Traditional-style Breakfast room and Dining Room? Here is the final room: the formal living room!

Background

If you recall, my wonderful client has 3 kids and lots of pets. The formal living room, however, is a space for the adults. We still tried to keep all the material choices durable and kid-friendly, but this is a more sophisticated room for mom and dad to cuddle and watch tv or hang out with friends over a glass of wine. You get the point.

On to the room. Here are some before photos:

We were starting completely from scratch with this room, with the goal of lots of seating and a warm, welcoming environment.

I may have mentioned in the other posts that the client’s favorite color is green. We wanted to thread that color throughout the home. I guess you could say that was our jumping-off point for this room. As you can see from the before photos, the space had a dark feel to it, so I wanted to lighten it up with creamy upholstery. We chose a light sofa (made with performance fabric) and even though the custom lounge chair is green, it’s a light and airy green. We then warmed the room up with wood tones and added black accents so it wouldn’t feel too feminine. The traditional rug pulled all the tones together. I placed the tv on the wall that backs up to the entryway so it’s not visible when you enter the house.
