Warm Traditional Part 2

Remember the Traditional-style Breakfast room we did? Well, we just finished up the formal Dining room and Living room!

Background

In case you don’t remember, this amazing family has 3 kids and lots of pets. The formal dining room is a space where they host holiday dinners, so not used regularly. We wanted to update the space, (while keeping a few existing items) and make it beautiful and welcoming.

Today we are getting into the Dining room. Here are some before photos:

The Process

The first step in the design was installing the grid wall. The client knew she wanted that, so it was built before we had selected any other items. Choosing the color was the next step. We wanted to use green throughout the house, but finding the perfect shade is harder than it sounds! We had actually planned to use a different color, but randomly held up Sherwin Williams Meander and loved it!

From there the other decisions began to fall into place. We kept the existing table, but replaced the host chairs for an updated look. We used lighter fabrics on the host chairs, table runner, and drapes to lighten up the room. The statement piece was the artwork. The client had always loved this piece and we were able to track it down and have it framed. I have to say, it’s gorgeous in the space!

The fabric on the chairs has variation that ties in the older, existing chairs.

This is an open concept area, but we wanted to define the 2 separate spaces, while still tying them together. We did this by adding different rugs in each area, but coordinating colors. We kept the same color theme throughout the spaces.
