Plant Lady

If you follow me on Instagram (@ladybirddsgns) then you know I’m obsessed with indoor plants. I always love the pop of green they add to a room, especially during the winter. I crave the outdoors, and back when we lived on the east coast, this was the best way to get it without freezing my bum off! When I first started collecting plants (about 5 years ago) I thought I had a black thumb. But I did some research and I am proud to say my plants have survived, and my collection is taking over the house!

Here are some of my tips for being a successful Plant Lady (or person):

  1. Only water them when the soil feels dry. For me, this is usually once a week. During the summer months sometimes more often.

  2. Give the plants a quick mist with a mister when you water them. (And luckily for us, misters make a pretty display item for your buffet or bookshelf too!)

  3. Spin baby! Give them a quarter turn after misting. If you are like me you will often forget whether you do a clockwise turn or a counter-clockwise turn, so maybe make yourself a note, ha!)

  4. Listen to your plants. When you purchase your plant, pay attention to whether they like full sun, partial sun, low light, etc., and find them an appropriate home in your house. Plants may not speak, but they let you know when they are unhappy. It may take some trial and error to find the perfect spot.

  5. When in doubt? Google! Also, there are tons of books (beautiful ones too) that teach you about plants.

If you are looking to add a plant to your life, here are some gorgeous planters (you can purchase these and more here).
